VG graduated in Chemistry in 2006 (Summa cum Laude) from the University of Rome “Tor Vergata” with a thesis on the characterization of superconducting thin films (Nb and NbN) by XRD and XRF techniques, in collaboration with the INFN of Frascati (INFN – LNF).
After obtaining her Ph.D. in Chemical Sciences from the University of Rome “Tor Vergata” in 2010, VG continued as a post-doctoral researcher focusing on the study, production and characterization of nanostructured carbon materials and hybrid systems, by CVD techniques, for applications in the optoelectronic field.

During the post-doctoral period, VG was member of the team at the academic spinoff NanoShare Srl, Italy (supported by MIUR), mainly dealing with the study, synthesis and characterization of nanostructured materials (i.e., nanodiamonds and nanocomposites based on nanodiamonds) for application of thermal management properties in optoelectronic devices.

From 2014 to 2019, VG moved to Day One Srl, an Italian SME company dedicated to deep technologies and fundings, covering the position of Innovation Manager with the role of scouting new technologies over the national and European area, validating the innovation degree, and identifying the most appropriate funding scheme for the further development (over 100 new technologies selected per year).

In 2019, VG relocated to INFN – LNF, attaining the temporary position as Research fellow within the XlabF, where VG participated to the development of a novel X-ray tomography hub for Phase Contrast and high-resolution CT analysis. Here, VG gained additional experience on X-ray techniques and optics for the study of materials for energy production from biomass (collaboration with G. Marconi University), the analysis of chemical pollutants in trees (collaboration with Tuscia University), elemental analysis of pigments in ancient artifacts (collaboration with Tor Vergata University) and study of materials from the Peltuinum excavation site (collaboration with Sapienza University).

In 2021, VG joined the Frascati Scienza Association with the role of Project Manager dedicated to the management of the activities organized during the European Researchers’ Night.

In January 2024, VG joined the Department of Chemical Science and Technologies at the University of Rome “Tor Vergata”, focusing on chemical synthesis techniques, including vapor-phase deposition of thin films and nanostructures on surfaces.
VG has been a member of the research group of several national and international projects, including:

  • NANORAY: Development of an X-ray tube based on the Field Emission properties of Carbon Nanotubes – (FP7- SME – Specific Programme “Capacities”: Research for the benefit of SMEs)
  • STOR-AGE: Realization of an innovative hydrogen storage system based on the integration of C nanomaterials in conducting polymer matrices – MIUR project for spin-off development
  • BLAZE: Biomass Low cost Advanced Zero Emission small-to-medium scale integrated gasifier fuel cell combined heat and power plant – (H2020-EU.3.3. – SOCIETAL CHALLENGES – Secure, clean and efficient energy)
  • ZEPHYRUS: “(Z)ero (E)mission (P)rocesses for (HY)drogen production via (R)eversible (U)se of (S)orbents – Lazio Innova “Progetto Gruppi di Ricerca 2020”
  • LEAF (European Researchers’ Night project): heaL thE plAnet’s Future – (H2020-MSCA-Citizens-2022)

VG is author of around 50 publications in international scientific journals.
