Francesca Cavalieri is an Associate Professor at the Department of Chemical Sciences and Technologies of the University of Rome “Tor Vergata”. She received her Laurea degree, ‘maxima cum laude,’ in Industrial Chemistry from the University of Rome La Sapienza and PhD in Chemistry at the University of Melbourne. In 2015, she was awarded the prestigious Australian Research Council Future Fellowship at the University of Melbourne (Australia), the H2020 Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellowship and in 2019 she was awarded the Vice Chancellor Senior Research Fellowship at RMIT University (Australia).

Dr Cavalieri has an expertise in the synthesis and characterization of nanostructured materials based on biomacromolecules (polysaccharides, proteins, nucleic acids). An area of great interest to her research group is the development of new bionanomaterials for gene and drug delivery and application of advanced super-resolution microscopy techniques to investigate the intracellular trafficking, targeting and efficacy of nanoparticles. She also expanded her research interest in sonochemistry, owing to its potential to achieve one-pot sono-assembly of biomolecules into nanodrugs.

She attracted significant national and international research grants from different funding bodies in the role of Lead PI and Coordinators including EU Horizon 2020, Australian Research Council and National Health and Medical Research Council, Bill&Melinda Gates Foundation.

Dr Cavalieri has published 118 peer-reviewed articles on good-high impact factor journals (ACS Nano, Advanced Materials, Small, Biomaterials, Angew Chemie, Ultrasonic Sonochemistry) with >4000 citations and an h-index of 36.
