Leonardo Duranti, born on May 29th 1990, graduated in Science and Technology of Materials at the University of Rome Tor Vergata in 2017.
In 2019 he was visiting PhD student at INRS Institute National de la Recherche Scientifique – Centre Énergie Matériaux Télécommunications in Varennes, Quebec, Canada, working on metal oxides catalysts for oxygen reduction and oxygen evolution reactions.
In 2020 he was invited speaker at the 44th International Conference and Expo on Advanced Ceramics and Composites (The American Ceramic Society – ICACC 2020) in Daytona Beach, Florida, USA.
In 2021 he obtained his PhD in Materials for Health, Environment and Energy at University of Rome Tor Vergata. In the same year he started working as post-doc in the group “SOFC/SOEC” at MaDE@UTV – Materials and Devices for Energy at the Department of Chemical Sciences and Technologies, University of Rome Tor Vergata. Leonardo won the Best Presentation Award Italian Virtual Workshop on Fuel Cells (IVWFC 2021) organized by the Italian Chemical Society (SCI) – Electrochemistry Division.
In 2022 he started working as fixed-term researcher and assistant professor (RTDa) at the Department of Chemical Sciences and Technologies, University of Rome Tor Vergata, where he is currently employed as a Tenure Track Researcher since November 2024.
In 2024 Leonardo won the Gualtiero Gusmano Best Presentation Award at the XIV Symposium on Materials Science and Technologies held by INSTM, the National Interuniversity Consortium of Materials Science and Technology.
His research activities are aimed at the development of oxide-based materials for applications in:

  • Solid Oxide Electrolyzer Cells (SOECs), Intermediate-Temperature Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (IT-SOFCs) and Reversible Solid Oxide Cells (RSOCs);
  • oxygen evolution electrocatalysts in alkaline water electrolyzers (AWEs);
  • dry reforming of methane (DRM), steam methane reforming (SMR), sorption-enhanced steam-methane reforming (SE-SMR).

His work has been carried out in collaboration with national and international groups, led by Prof. Nan Yang (ShanghaiTech University), Prof. Isabella Natali Sora (Università degli studi di Bergamo), Prof. Marta Boaro (Università di Udine) and Dr Igor Luisetto (ENEA).
