Lorenzo STELLA
Professore Ordinario SSD: CHIM/02 Chimica FisicaStanza: F1 – 4Informazioni biografiche
He has been a member of the steering committee of the Italian Society for Pure and Applied Biophysics and of the Italian Peptide Society (which he co-founded). He is currently part of the editorial board of J. Mol. Struct. and of the editorial advisory board of J. Pept. Sci. His research is focused on the structure, dynamics, molecular interactions, and biological function of peptides and proteins, studied by a combination of spectroscopic techniques and computational methods, particularly fluorescence spectroscopy and molecular dynamics simulations. In the last years, he studied and developed different peptide classes with potential therapeutic applications, such as host defense peptides, promising molecules to fight drug-resistant bacteria, or peptides and peptidomimetics designed to interfere with protein-protein interactions involved in cancer and several congenital disorders. In this context, he also studies the structural, dynamical, and functional effects of pathogenic mutations linked to these diseases.
