Researcher  in Physical Chemistry at the Department of Chemical Science and Technologies of the University of Rome Tor Vergata since 2007.
She performs in her research, physico-chemical characterizations of biological and non-biological systems using several experimental techniques (like UV-Vis absorption and fluorescence, FTIR (ATR and RAS), circular dichroism, fluorescence microscopy, cyclic voltammetry, scanning electron microscopy). By using this approach she studied, for example, the antimicrobial activity of some antibiotic peptides and the structural properties of polysaccharides used for drug delivery, giving a molecular interpretation of their rheological properties and aggregation kinetic (Project: PRIN 2008 2008HTJLN2_001). Recently, her research has been directed towards the Cultural Heritage field, focusing on the characterization of paper ageing and on the development of new cleaning methodologies for paper and parchment materials. In this contest, she has collaborated with restorers of ICRCPAL (Istituto Centrale per il Restauro e la Conservazione del Patrimonio Archivistico e Librario), ISC-CNR (Istituto dei Sistemi Complessi, Centro Nazionale delle Ricerche) and Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana (BAV) Drs Mazzuca is involved in several projects, among which Progetti Gruppi di Ricerca–Lazio Innova 85-2017-15290 (LR 13/2008 art. 4 cap. 2018/11092); SoftART (Bando Miur – FARE Ricerca in Italia,2016).
She published about 50 papers on international journals (HI Scopus: 16).
She has been involved as teacher of the lesson:” Using Gellan gel to clean paper artwork (part 1)” in “Colloids and Surfaces in Cultural Heritage: Physico-Chemical Methodologies and New Investigative Approaches” (training course in: 30th Conference of The European Colloid and Interface Society, Rome, 4-9-September 2016).
