Our Andrea Idili won the ISSNAF award for Young Investigators 2019 (IBM Bio 4 Dreams Award).
November 14 will be in Washington at the Italian embassy to receive the award.
Once again the research carried out by our young people is internationally recognized and rewarded.
The conference will be held in Saint Petersburg (September 9-13, 2019), as a satellite event during the XXI Mendeleev Congress on General and Applied Chemistry, dedicated to the 150thanniversary of the Periodic Table.
“Mendeleev 2019″ will provide young chemists (undergraduate students, PhD-students, and young scientists aged under 35) an opportunity to present their research and meet scientists working in various fields of chemistry at Saint Petersburg State University.
The Official language of Mendeleev 2019 is English.
The scientific program will consist of keynote lectures given by the leading world scientists, oral presentations of young participants and a poster session.

This study, by Ester Chiessi, researcher of our Department, in collaboration with Letizia Tavagnacco ed Emanuela Zaccarelli (CNR, Istituto dei Sistemi Complessi of Rome), describes the molecular behaviour of a polymer that is largely used for its thermal responsivity in aqueous environment. The paper, published on Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics in 2018, has been selected as key scientific article contributing to excellence in science and engineering research.

Our researchers Dr. Emanuela Gatto and Dr. Claudia Mazzuca he been selected as recipients of the Start Cup Lazio 2018 Award with the SPLastica Project. Emanuela Gatto and Claudia Mazzuca, together with Valentina Armuzza, a former student of our MSc Degree in Chemistry, and Graziano Massaro, a business consultant, have been awarded the First Prize of the Start Cup Lazio 2018, for the Best Idea of Innovative Company developed into a Research Center of Lazio.Our Post-Doctoral Fellow Dr Alessandro Bertucci, from Francesco Ricci’s group and at present visiting San Diego in the framework of a Marie Curie Global Felloship, has been selected as one of the three possible recipients of the ISSNAF Award for Young Investigators.
ISSNAF is the Italian Scientists and Scholars in North America Foundation and Alessando has been invited to present his research at the annual event that will be held at the Italian Embassy in Whashington, DC.

Valeria Paoloni PhD Student (XXXI cycle) and Giuseppina Laganà (PhD XXIX cycle) won the Best Research Award with a paper demonstrating the usefulness of Orthodontics for patients’ oral and general health. The research title is “3D evaluation of maxillary morphology in Marfan growing subjects: a controlled clinical study” and it has been discussed during the SIDO 49th International Congress in Florence – October 12-13, 2018.
This scientific award was given to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Italian Orthodontic Society. The research was possible as a good scientific collaboration between Dr Giuseppina Laganà Orthodontic Department (Head: Prof. Paola Cozza) and the Centre for Rare Diseases, for Marfan Syndrome and Related Disorders (Head: Prof. Giovanni Ruvolo).
Our Ph D student Francesca Corsi, student of the Ph D program in Materials for Health, Environment and Energy, has been awarded the prize for best oral presentation among young researchers ricercatori (under 35) for her paper “Contrasting chemotherpay-induced tumor repopulation with cerium oxide nanoparticles” presented at the 2018 CSRM Conferemce, held in Pavia, September 28-29.

The School of Neutron Scattering “Francesco Paolo Ricci” (SoNS) is glad to announce that Dr. Pierfrancesco Ulpiani is the winner of the first edition of the joint SIF-SoNS “Neutrons Matter” 2018 prize, “For his relevant experimental achievements in the optimization of detection and energy analysis of electronvolt neutrons, and their applications to the measurement of zero point kinetic energy in condensed ice phases”.
The prize was received today, September 17th, from Prof.ssa Luisa Cifarelli, president of the Italian Physical Society (SIF), and Prof. Roberto Senesi, president of the School of Neutron Scattering “Francesco Paolo Ricci”, during the opening ceremony of the 104th Annual National Congress of the Italian Physical Society (SIF) held at the Università della Calabria.
Dr. Ulpiani, graduated in physics at the Università degli Studi di Roma “Tor Vergata”, is currently a PhD student in “Materials for Health, Environment and Energy” at the Università degli Studi di Roma “Tor Vergata”.

Le attività di AlgaRes sono legate alle alghe e sono ampie e variegate, interessando varie applicazioni biotecnologiche, la protezione dell’ambiente, l’agricoltura, il settore aerospaziale, le fonti sostenibili di energia alternativa. Con il procedere della realizzazione di nuove applicazioni, l’esperienza di AlgaRes consente di essere all’avanguardia nello sviluppo di prodotto.
AlgaRes offre servizi che includono consulenza, pianificazione di progetto, ricerca di base e corsi di formazione avanzata.
In particolare, le attività di AlgaRes sono dedicate alla selezione e produzione di biomassa specifica di specie algali per il bio-risanamento delle acque reflue, la produzione di biocarburanti e altri composti bioattivi e antiossidanti.

SPlastica progetta e realizza nuovi materiali bioplastici, completamente biodegradabili e compostabili. In particolare, sfruttando l’esperienza pluriennale dei suoi fondatori (gruppo Bioinspired Functional Materials del Dipartimento di Scienze e Tecnologie Chimiche dell’Università di Roma “Tor Vergata”) nell’ambito dei biopolimeri naturali come materiali sostenibili, SPlastica estrae tali biopolimeri da scarti organici, utilizzandoli poi come mattoncini molecolari nella realizzazione e formulazione di nuovi materiali bioplastici. Anche i processi di sintesi e di estrazione sono completamente sostenibili, utilizzando condizioni blande di reazione, ed evitando l’uso di sostanze inquinanti per l’ambiente.
