Marco Sette is an Associate Professor of Molecular Biology at the Department of Chemical Sciences and Technologies at the university of Rome Tor Vergata.
He earned a Master’s degree in Biology, graduating with honors in 1988, and then earned a PhD in Cellular and Molecular Biology, working in the same university and in part in the university of California, Davis, under the supervision of Professor Gerd La Mar, and studying the structural features of metalloproteins using NMR spectroscopy. He subsequently conducted NMR studies of RNA-binding proteins at Utrecht university, under the supervision of Professor Rolf Boelens and Professor Robert
Kaptein.
In 1995, he was appointed Assistant Professor of Biochemistry at the Department of Chemical Sciences and Technologies of the university of Rome Tor Vergata.
After NMR studies of DNA-binding proteins and lignin, he began studying antibacterial peptides, maintaining collaborations with the university of Utrecht and the Sorbonne university, Paris Nord, where he is affiliated for research.
Since 2014, he has had a habilitation for full Professor in France, Section 64, Biochimie et Biologie Moléculaire.
He is actually involved in the field of structural microbiology, conducting studies on the proteins of pathogenic bacteria and studying immunogenic peptides, and maintains collaborations with universities in the Netherlands, France, Austria, and several Italian institutions. His skills include solution NMR spectroscopy of biological molecules (proteins, peptides, lignin, and DNA), CD spectroscopy, structural bioinformatics (sequence analysis, homology modeling, docking, electrostatics, and molecular dynamics), and Python programming.
