From 2001 to 2012 he has been Associated Professor and from 2012 he is Full Professor of Chemistry at the same Department. He has been responsible of several National and European research projects, and he is now coordinator of the FET-OPEN project INITIO within the Horizon2020 EU program. Roberto Paolesse authored more than 400 articles on international journals, six patents and edited two books. His papers received 9855 citations with a H-index=53 (source SCOPUS, May 2019).
His research interests can be described by four different topics:

  • Synthesis and reactivity of metal complexes of porphyrins and related macrocycles.
  • Thin film deposition of organic materials.
  • Development of porphyrin based chemical sensors.
  • Development and application of artificial sensorial systems (E-nose and E-tongue).
  • Study of the opto-electronic properties of porphyrin and related macrocycle thin films He is co-director of the Sensors Group of the University of Rome Tor Vergata (http://sensorsgroup.uniroma2.it/)
